‘To Absent Friends’ – Surviving the sinking of HMS Edinburgh, April 1942

A tribute to those 67 who lost their lives on the fateful day, at two minutes past four in the afternoon, whilst sitting down to tea. We are the lucky ones, sitting here, enjoying health. But I can’t help thinking of those who ‘dropped the pilot’ on that fateful day. We do not know what happens to us when we depart as no one ever comes back to tell us. But I can’t help thinking of them now and hope that they may be waiting for me to ‘drop my pilot’ and save me a place on the messdeck table. God bless.
